For us in the USA this weekend is Memorial Day, a federal holiday for remembering the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. But it also serves as the kick-off for summer and a three-day holiday weekend.
Brief Blog Announcement: Due to some health problems and family commitments, I will be publishing fewer new recipes.
I will be publishing timely re-edited recipes most of which will be “new to you” unless you have been reading this blog for eight years. They will be greatly expanded with new information and a dog picture.
Most will be re-edited in place and not moved to the front page of the blog. I have done 50 and have 450 to work on. I’m working on June 2010 now and coming forward. If you want to track the progress, you can check the date archive in the footer (bottom on mobile) and the desktop recipe index.
Publisher note: This is a re-edit of previous years ( since 2016) post. New recommendations and of course, a new dog picture is added as needed to keep it fresh.
It’s FINALLY SUMMER. Let’s party… and remember. So, what to take to the party? Food and party animals.
Once known as Decoration Day that started after the American Civil War to honor the Union dead, later it merged with a similar Confederate holiday and ultimately for all American war dead.
Before we start, a few food safety reminders. So easy to forget. It is up to you to keep your friends and family safe. I see dangerous food handling on TV food shows and other blogs frequently. So know the rules. PLEASE.
As a start, please review my Holiday Food Safety post. Let’s be safe out there. No, Uncle Joe cannot have his burger rare even though you wouldn’t mind seeing him sick. It is your responsibility to keep them safe.
Sweet and Spicy Chicken Bacon Wraps I use this one a lot
Fresh Strawberry Pie – I’m making two this weekend
Don’t Forget to take the Party Animals
Have a great holiday weekend and enjoy your summer.
